Side by Side Sings “Happy Trails” to Summer 2017

SxS leaders

Songleaders Debbie Nordeen (far left), Ruthie Rosauer (with clarinet) and Jan Mallindine led singers in their summer farewell session in Asheville on August 30. Ruthie broke out her clarinet for this session and added some zest (and a few squeaks) to “When the Saints Go Marching Home.”  We were also favored by a mother-daughter duet on “Amazing Grace” that was beautifully harmonized. Everyone loved “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” !!!!

Check this space for more sessions as they are announced.

Find us at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Asheville the rest of August 2017

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation’s building in Asheville faces Charlotte St., but there is no parking on Charlotte St. there. It is between Edwin Place (in small photo above, right) which does have on-street parking and Bond Street (larger photo above)

which does have a parking lot. Although this photo of the Bond Street entrance does not show it, there is a handicap accessible ramp just to the left of these steps.

Our guitarist and song leader, Jan Mallindine, is shown in the photo above right!

We will be at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Asheville the next three Wednedays at 2pm — August 16, 23, and 30. Come sing with us!

Travelin’ along Side by Side to Asheville

Side by Side is indeed “travellin’ along” and we are moving from Fletcher to Asheville next week. We will be in our Asheville location Wednesdays August 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 2 – 3pm.
SIDE BY SIDE SINGING is good for body, heart, and mind….and it’s fun! New studies show how many beneficial ‘side effects’ singing together provides. Singing is a therapeutic and healing activity for the brain as well as the spirit.
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation is located at 1 Edwin Place, Asheville, NC 28801 (on the corner with Charlotte St.) The singing happens in Sandburg Hall which is handicap accessible. As always the sessions are free of charge.
Song leaders will be Debbie Nordeen, Ruthie Rosauer and Jan Mallindine.
Come sing with us!

A Grand Time was had by All

Some of us were marching around the Parish Hall to “When the Saints Go Marching In” and some were shaking their tambourines — but we were ALL singing “side by side.” We hope you will come sing with us the next two Thursdays at 2pm, July 27 and August 3, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, North Carolina.

We had a ‘hot time’ at Side by Side Singing yesterday

SxS fire trucks

There we were, singing at the top of our lungs, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and — smelling smoke! We left the Parish Hall in an orderly fashion. Volunteers carried out chairs and music. Jan Mallindine had her guitar with her — so we barely missed a beat. We set up the chairs in the shade and kept right on singing “Side by Side.” It turns out it was just an overheated air conditioning system that was causing the smoke, so we will be back singing next Thursday, July 20, 2pm at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC.

Side by Side Singing in the news

In case you haven’t seen it yet, there is a nice article about Side by Side Singing in the July 2017 issue of Bold Life magazine by Sarah Hart.

There is also an article in July 9, 2017 issue of Hendersonville Times-News entitled, “Side by Side Singing connects patients, caregivers” by Sean Patrick Smith. We love this article — but want to remind you that Side by Side Singing is for EVERYONE who wants to come sing with us, and that our singing sessions are for one hour (not 90 minutes).

Side by Side Singing will be on Thursdays from 2- 3 July 13, 20, 27 and August 3, 2017 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC. We hope you will COME SING WITH US!
